Personalized Creative Design with Chris Baran

All of our stylists were recently inspired by spending the day with Chris Baran, Artistic Director and Educational Consultant with REDKEN 5th AVENUE NYC.  He has won many awards including Canadian Hairdresser of the Year and a North American Hair Styling Award (NAHA). His ability to translate the latest trends into usable looks for our guests is unequaled.Chris Baran at Robert Andrew Salon & Spa

Our stylists were able to see the latest techniques that are used to achieve modern looks on many different textures of hair. The finished looks were supported by some exciting new products from REDKEN: Satin Wear 02 and Blown Away 09. The shine and heat protection from these two products gives great control and style memory to the hair.

Color can take any hairstyle to the next level. An exciting new technique called “Kryptonite” was used to enhance the shapes that were created earlier. This versatile placement of the highlights will work with many different shapes and textures. The star-like pattern can be enhanced with several “sparks” of color fr3768366139 fef613998f m Personalized Creative Design with Chris Baranom underneath, to give it a more dramatic look.

Continuing education is just one way Robert Andrew ensures that you get the highest quality cuts and colors from our stylists!

Treat Me Right

Being proactive with the health and condition of your hair can save you inches of suffering and hours of frustration.

First, you need to be using products that are formulated for your specific needs.

Is your hair color treated, dry, frizzy, fine or damaged? Seek out a shampoo for color-treated hair and a conditioner made to help smooth the cuticle (outer layer) of the hair.3702288246 6dd3ae096b m Treat Me Right

Once a week, or every five shampoos, is a great time to treat yourself (and your hair) to an intensive at-home treatment.

Remember, you can get too much of a good thing. Using a treatment every time you shampoo, can lead to overload! Over moisturized hair looks and reacts like dry hair. Follow your stylist’s recommendations and don’t over do it.

Protect your color-treated hair from fading before it starts.

Color fades an average of about 26% in four to six weeks. Refuse to fade away! Just like your skin, your hair needs protection from damaging UV rays. Apply a sunscreen (they make them for hair now) and work through the hair. Remember to reapply after several hours. Once is NOT enough. Your daily shampoo should protect from chlorine and UV rays. Look for ingredients like tocopherol (vitamin E) and PABA free sunscreens.

Utilizing a color enhancing shampoo and conditioner once every third shampoo, can be your saving grace. Here’s the ticket – they can be custom blended at professional salons.  Ask us for more details!

The Secret to Packing Light

Last weekend I went on a trip to visit some friends and the airline I flew with The Secret to Packing Light charged me for checking a bag!  Apparently this is becoming more and more common amongst the airlines, but seriously, how is a girl to survive on a carry-on alone!?  My shoes take up one bag by themselves!  So now when I travel I either have to cough up the extra $25 to check a bag or sacrifice fashion and pack less.

 The Secret to Packing Light

Then I discovered the secret to packing light – they’re called SwitchFlops. You can pack a week’s worth of shoe styles in the space it takes to pack one pair of shoes.  Pack one pair of SwitchFlops and bring as many of the interchangeable straps you want to match all your outfits (and if you’re truly addicted like me you’ll buy outfits to match some of the cute straps).  The idea is really quite ingenious.  There are several different styles of SwitchFlops including the traditional flip flop and a dressier kitten heel.  Both offer endless style possibilities with just a quick switch of the straps.

Robert Andrew has these shoes in their boutique so you can try them on and see all the different straps first hand.  It might make taking just a carry-on an option for my next trip!
